On Sunday I visited Castleto ROC post in North Yorkkshire. The setting is truely amazing wonderful views in every direction.

I had been looking forward to seeing this post because the description on Subbrit was of a mint site.

Unfortunatly things didn't look that well.

As you can see in the above picture the hatch has been broken right off. And has been placed upside down over the shaft. I lifted the hatch away and peered down the shaft. At the bottom i could see water but i could not tell how deep it was. I gingerly climbed down the ladder and lowered by boot into the water. Barely an inch??? The sight which met me down there made me physicly sick.

The place had been stripped and trashed. It looks like someones had a weird party down there looking at all those bottles.

I tried to pump the water out but the pump no longer pumped.

Then i looked at the loo.

OH MY GOD!!!!

I climbed back out and tried to replace the hatch better than i found it. The hatch suppot strutt was damaged an jamed in the up possition preventing the hatch covering the hole fully. Still I did my best.

Well worth a visit for the location alone.

Hi Rob,

Nice pictures. Nice to see another ROC post in another setting. Not so nice to the what some mindless idiot/s have done to the place. By the looks of the location, you'd think it would be well out of "chavelling" distance too!
Thanks for sgaring your pics anyway.

Yeah it is a really nice setting, isn't it.
What amazes me is the thought of a carload of mates travelling some distance to go underground in a tiny little hole in the ground just to have a party!!!
Enjoyed your pics Rob.
Cheers
Foxy :)

great pics rob, love the views, huge pity about the state of it now tho, after the idiotic chavs have smashed it up and had a party. makes you wonder where their brains are!

brill pics.

i never realised there are some roc posts not far away from me. cant remember what site i saw it on but theres one at pleasley now being used as a wine cellar. would love to ask him if i could go and have a look inside. will take him a bottle of wine if he said yes. :D (yep, will have to get into creeping/begging mode now, will have to find the site i saw pics of the outside of it on. ) grrr, memory like a sieve lmao. must be my age.

Thanks Krela, that must be the one id been looking on. my memory must be going, or else im losing my marbles (if i haven't already lmao). will have to have a wander around and have a look now. as soon as this snow goes, can get out and about. roll on the summer :D
