Royal Observer Corps Monitoring Posts are underground structures all over the United Kingdom, constructed as a result of the Corps' nuclear reporting role and operated by volunteers during the Cold War between 1955 and 1991.

In all but a very few instances the posts were built to a standard design consisting of a 14-foot-deep access shaft, a toilet/store and a monitoring room.[1] The most unusual post was the non-standard one constructed in a cellar within Windsor Castle.

Almost half of the total number of posts were closed in 1968 during a reorganisation and major contraction of the ROC. Several others closed over the next 40 years as a result of structural difficulties i.e. persistent flooding, or regular vandalism. The remainder of the posts were closed in 1991 when the majority of the ROC was stood down following the break-up of the Communist Bloc. Many have been demolished or adapted to other uses but the majority still exist, although in a derelict condition.

Finally this is the video footage i took while i approached and then finally entered the bunker. Please bare in mind i was on my own when doing this and was really worried about getting trapped in bunker so it took me a couple of minutes to build my courage up before i entered.

That's pretty mint :) I remember doing my first ROC, which was my local one (very burnt out and trashed) and was shocked by how small it was when I got inside. Looking to do a mint one sooner or later though. Thanks for posting!

It's never occurred to me, getting trapped in a post but I can see how it could be a problem for some folk, you showed some bottle getting the pics, I liked the sound effects, Thanks

Very nice Taz! I've been in a couple of these myself over the last few weeks :) going to put a report up soon. Some of the stuff left inside is quite interesting and the climb in and out is very fun too lol :) great pics and video!

Thank you Tazong - great photos, write up & enjoyed the video. And as you've seen my write up on the AAOR bunker you know I totally empathise with you being alone in these situations!!! Plus was lovely to see it all in such great condition. Great work buddy!
