Default Grantham ROC Post, February 2019

Paid a visit to this ROC post. Easy access which probably explains why it's been set fire to and has the hatch smashed off. Real shame that some idiots find amusement in such moronic behaviour. Burnt out but still some original features:

    Love the official signage:

Hatch counter-weight mechanism is still part present:

That's just pure vandalism. I can only imagine how it was before the fire.

Rather - Who were the Royal Observer Corps? A body of men, who in WW2 observed the skies and reported incoming Raids. Come the Nuclear Age they were stationed in deep bunkers (such as pictured here), equipped with fall out detectors and would had detected nuclear fall out and its wind blown direction of travel. Looking at the overall installations now, they were obviously there to give the 'Powers That Be' enough warning to scuttle to their blast proof hide holes, leaving the natives to their own devices.

About us
DerelictPlaces is a forum for people with an interest in the history and documentation of disused, derelict and abandoned buildings to come together and share their experiences, photography and historical findings. Our military, industrial and historical heritage is fast disappearing under the pressure of regeneration, the need for new housing, and often through simple neglect; Our aim is to document these places before they disappear entirely.
