The Second ROC Post I have visited in this area, apologies for the pics, all I had on my was my trusty Nokia 6300 as I didn't plan to find this site, just sort of turned up at it!

Subbrit site here

It was open but due to lack of equipment I didn't enter.

roc post

Grand find mate.....get back there with a torch and have a proper mooch...!
By the way...I know the answer is Googleable (is that a word???) or quite probably elsewhere on here somewhere but I can't be arsed to hunt for it (lazy git) so I'll ask here instead.... When were these ROC posts officially 'stood down' and abandoned ???? Cheers !

Most of the info is on the Subbrit page I linked too right at the top.

I use that, cross refrenced with Google earth to find these posts local to me to explore!

roc

Yep the subrit page got the info required cheers and Thank you !...
Yer a very kind young man !ha ha!
I dunno if I would have fancied being sat in one of those as the Russkie nukes flew in mind............Seeing as the world would have ended up as one great big smoking dustbin I think I'd rather have sat up on the top of that hill and watched the explosions with a bottle of good whisky , a plate of curry and a packet of fags !!...You could always have grilled a few sausages whilst waiting to get gamma fried............:)

You missed the fit bird from your shopping list:p....

Is the orlit further across the field? Haven't been here for a while.
(my avatar pic is me coming out of the Backbarrow post!)

tbh I forgot about the Olit at the time, keep meaning to go back up and have a proper look, maybe with some equipment to have a look inside. I was just amazed to stumble across the site.

cool - glad it's still there. Such a shame to see so many of these being rapidly lost.

And that's just lazy shatters lol ;)

Not the best pic, couldn't be bothered to walk up so used maximum zoom.

Phil

Seems I am less lazy than Shatters...

To be fair it was a hell of a way, I wouldn't like to be doing that whilst the planes were whizzing over! Also I had a nice set of tracks to follow that I bet the soilders didn't!

It was a case of you'd look up and it'd be "Just on top of the next hill" you'd get there and it was on the next F**king hill, I was bloody knackered by the time I got there!

Still seems in very good condition, Steps are still there but one siderail is missing. The roof has gone off what I presume was a covered section too.

And a bit lying on the floor, part of the old rail perhaps?

And as it's in such a nice location, a Picture of my trusty steed infront of ROC Backbarrow! (Ok the post is behind me, but the picture from the other side came out crap!)
