I've walked past this old station a number of times, but going past it yesterday noticed that some members of the local youth had kindly opened it up for us! We just had to take a look inside. The station was opened in June 1855 on the Blackburn Valley section of the South Yorkshire Railway which ran from Sheffield to Barnsley. The line was used for passenger services as well as being used for extensive colliery traffic. The station, along with a number of others, closed on 7 December 1955 and has remained empty ever since. The building is situated next to a level crossing (which still has visible track tarmacked into the road) and consists of 2 platforms. According to Wikipedia the Goods Shed also still exists but it's not obvious where (we didn't see it, put it that way!) that may be a good objective for a future visit. So on with the pics...

The place has obviously been torched at some point.

We thought this was most likely an old station trolley

The remaining line. The line which goes through the station would have run on the right of this line.

And finally... On the way to Grange Lane from Meadowhall, you pass Meadowhall and Wincobank Station which is still intact and appears to be lived in, in fact they are in the process of reroofing it. Next to the building we spotted this and were wondering what it was. We decided it was probably an Air Raid Siren but if anyone could confirm that it would be cool. Is it WWII?
