Basil Mill, St.Clether

These are the sorry remains of a Victorian period water mill. Probably to do with Basil Manor, St.Clether and situated next to but higher than the Inney River. Pictures show leats from higher up and to the mill. Not much left of the stone building but the cast iron parts of the wheel are very good and inscribed 'W.Oates Wadebridge 1840'
Watch out for slippery stones under the undergrowth!










































I have since checked and have found the mill, Basil Mill, is on the 1883 and 1954 maps but then disapears which helps to date the dereliction.
Yeah - doh! It's W. Oatey not Oates...this is what the wheel would have looked like...

Really like this. I did my first explores on old water mills when a youngster and this brings back some great memories. Magical places...especially when all overgrown like that. Great.
