Hadleigh Castle, Construction was started in 1230 by Hubert de Burgh, regent to Henry III. Henry fell out with Hubert and confiscated the castle, as a royal property it was extended in the mid 14th century by Edward III.

The Castle was not completed until the 1360's when it was turned into a Royal palace. It was built on the edge of a steep slope and unfortunately the south side of the castle walls and the south tower have collapsed. The northern part of the octagonal curtain wall and two towers have survived almost intact. It fell into ruin in the mid 16th century and much of the stone was removed.

English Heritage, open all year.

Nice work! :)
I think this isn't too far from Colchecestershire, so I might just nip down there to take a look!
Thanks again LE
