Location
People's Republic of South Yorkshire.
Bit of a break from the Italian stuff. So this place has been on the map for a while. It’s a bit of a local fave of mine. I’ve done three revisits and on the last visit the place had been badly vandalised. A few months ago rumours started circulating that there had been a fire here. I’d passed it from a distance and seen as much. In the end I bit the bullet and went for a look. It could have been a total burn-out. It’s pretty far gone in terms of the kitchen and the upstairs but some of the roof and floors still remain. Ironically some of the vegetation has now been cleared from the out-buildings. I thought I’d do this report so you can see what’s left. Also spent a bit more time on the out-lying buildings too.

Why mindless idiots do this, I’ve no idea. It would have stood no chance as there was no way the fire-engines could have got down to the house to put the fire out given its location.

Outdoor toilet still in tact!

I'm glad you posted this Hughie, sad as it is to see what the folks fascinated by fire have done too this sweet little cottage, I was wondering what state it was in after hearing about the fire.
Well photographed, Thanks

Such a shame. It was one of my favourite explores from last year ( one of many I haven't done reports on - apologies ).

I tried here a couple of weeks ago but saw a few tents there so I gave up. It does have a really peaceful setting to it. Real shame about the fire damage though.

I'd give it another go mate. Was quiet when I was there. Although looks like someone had made a camp fire (see first pic)

Found out a bit more about this place today. Apparently it was sold and when the owner bought it they found out there was no right of way across the field owned by the Duke of Rutland thus no way to build a drive to the cottage. Hence with the only access to the cottage being along the canal the purchase was worth next-to-nothing to the owner. Apparently they then sold the property to the Duke who had no interest in doing anything with the cottage other than letting it go to ruin. Sad story...
