A ruined cottage near Pentewan. Even though there isn't much to look at here, I still really enjoy exploring places like this, partly to record them and I love looking at all the different textures created as the building decays. I have visited all kinds of larger and more complete sites but I can still spend an hour or so taking photos at a place like this. It's interesting to see how the buildings decay and different rates, here one of the stone side walls was virtually gone, along with all the roof, while a internal door survived remarkably well in comparison.

Very nice set TD - much better with that small watermark. Brick fireplace is probably late 1930's and could have replaced the original iron range. The ironwork supporting the brick infill over the fire grate is very similar to items shown in the household magazines of the time, as people modernised room interiors. An old building, built using locally sourced materials - hence the wooden lintels, and modernised over time to meet the requirements of the then occupants. I can certainly relate to the fireplace situation - For the first 10/11 years of my life we lived in a flat that consisted of the whole first floor of a large, early Victorian semi. During that period the Landlord gradually ripped out the cast iron ranges and fireplaces and replaced them with modern, brick built horrors! These were supposed to give a modern look and burn the precious coal ration more efficiently - all they did was produce more room filling smoke when the wind was in the right direction, which from memory seemed to be everyday the fire was lit!
