this old windmill lies on the Carrington estate in the heart of Leicestershire, i used to look across the field too it on the way to school thinking wow id love to live in there :lol:

ive finally got to see it up close and inside as we were replacing one of the very rotted oak lintles above the door on the first floor

affraid its phone pics only :(

the ground floor is just the farms chemical store, the previous owner had been using the first floor as a grain store too

thankfully there has been a roof on it since it seased to be a windmill so its all nice and dry inside (note the ring gear around the top course of bricks)

thats great!!! :) Ive always had a thing for windmills and lighthouses, not sure why. Never thought of them derelict before. thats just one step better.

I love them too. We saw a load when we went on the Norfolk Broads a couple of years ago. They'd make great houses, with real character.

I can't remember the exact place now but in Norfolk there is the tallest tower mill in Britain and it has a museum attached full of old cameras and machinery and the like. The mill really is tall well over 100ft and the view from the top is fantastic. I don't envy them the task of repairing the sails and re hanging the though.
