Hiding In An Air-Raid Shelter Until The Heat Dies
Having a wander through the local woods with my little co-explorer and we stumbed upon this. It's the floor to a 25ft by 20ft tiled building but its IN THE MIDDLE OF THE WOODS

It looks like you had to walk up the ramp and then turn left into a small room then turn right into the main corridor.

Standing in the middle of the possible corridor, it looks like there was three rooms. In the above pic the one main room is the furthest away. it looks like there were two rooms closest as it seems there was an internal seprating wall.

There are two pipe holes in the ground. Is one for incoming and one for outgoing?

Haven't the faintest idea what this was for as it is literally in the middle of Bayhurst Woods in Harefield Middx.

got a local.live or google earth map link?

It's a toilet block of some description, I'm wondering if it's anywhere near an old ww2 airfield.

I just typed Bayhurst Wood, England in the Google Earth search.

A toilet block you say..oh dear..lol...not sure to keep this post here or not now? doesn't seem worth it.

Oh well, I will have some pics of the Battle Of Britain House In Northwood (whats left of it) tomorrow so maybe that will be better.

Nope, can't say. Looking at Peoples Map shows the shape of the wood has hardly changed in decades, so it's not as if the trees have grown up around a building that was previously standing there unencumered by arborial madness.

Are you sure that's the only remains in the area? The style of tiles, and drainage would tend to suggest possibly cooking facilities? So perhps for other buildings in the area? A bit small though.

AHA. I think Krela has got it. Don't I see blue plastic piping in the background?

Toilet blocks in woods in this area have been closed and/or demolished, so perhaps public bogs that have likewise gone as a cost saving exercise. Looking at the floor plan seems to be divided in two, so possibly ladies/gents?

Are you sure that's the only remains in the area?.

The woods are the earliest recorded in England so yes, they were there first and the now named toilet block was built amongst it. There are no other buildings nearby. There are no other bases that I can see, that's not to say none exist.

The nearest WW2 airfield in the area was RAF Northolt and is still in use (my old workplace).

Well thanks,
Yes I totally agree about the toilets. It does seem strange to have had a toilet block placed in the middle of woods in the first place. If nature called, then surely there's plenty of trees nearby or is that just me being my usual crass self?

Has there ever been any kind of 'official' scout/guide camp in those woods.... just a thought.

Also, not sure, but the building looks too old have used the blue plastic water-pipe

You se public bogs in woods all over the place. Usually there's a car park and maybe a picnic site nearby though.

Not too exciting I wouldn't have thought. Porcelein is porcelein. :D
