Hi guys,

Well I haven't really been exploring since May due to a "bad" explore, so with Urbexing being in the blood I needed to do something and something that will not land me in any trouble!

Here is the Trestle Viaduct, part of the Witham to Maldon railway line. Opened in 1848 and closing in 1966 to passenger and goods trains, this is now a scheduled monument and is the only remaining timber viaduct in England (apperently).

It is shocking how solid it is, and runs into the back of someones garden.

Nice and very unusual. :)
I must say that I have not seen anything like this ( apart from some coal loading staithes at Blyth, Northumberland).
It reminds me of one of those American bridges in the cowboy films. :)

Ha ha, totally agree, if it was really dry and dusty around it would definately be one of those rickety Wild West bridges! i have researched and this viaduct seems to be the only type remaining in the country.

Thanks FoxyLady, cant wait to walk the 10 miles to cover it ha ha x

Yeah they have repaired some of the ones going into the river. We had the exact same discussion and came to the conclusion the "sleepers" were definately original.

It's amazing that it's been kept in good condition even though it is unused. Is it out of the way?

The village is tiny, but yeah, its just down a little footpath, but can be seen from the road. On the Essex Councils website it states the only modenr graffitti is the word "the". I am suprised there isnt more damage considering its wooden, which is really good.
