I'm keeping this location secret this time because there are some nice things lying round the place.

I stumbled across this old steading during my search for an old property to restore and live in for my retirement.
The site has no access whatsoever and I had to jump many fences to get to it - yes I ripped my trousers in the process!

The location is full of history and a simple search online told me that it can be traced back to the year 800. There are also two well preserved "camps" nearby, complete with trenches.

I'll stop waffling now and put the pics up.....

The front of the building which faces South. A forest now hides the place - I think that's why it is still standing!

The rear of the building. Many features have sadly been robbed over the years but this shot shows just how substantial the walls are.

Look what lies on the grass outside. A beautiful old stone carved trough. I bet there are many other things like this around the site.

The front door. Very nice stonework here.

Inside the steading. Massive old fireplace with additions over the years. To the left is a nest box. There are owls here. Beautiful snowy owls - I was speechless when I saw them.

What's left of the stairs. I didn't dare climb them!

The beautiful winters view the occupants would have enjoyed.

Sadly this building is not the one. There are too many "issues" which need sorting. I will keep looking though - I'll share my finds with you. :)

Thanks Foxylady. :)

The owls - when I first got there I looked in the window. About 5 feet away was a pure white owl. It simply flew silently away. It was hooge too. Sorta scary but nice!

I have seen a trough like this before. One of my customers used to have a farm. On the farm land was a ruined chappel from the middle ages. When she eventually sold her farm she took troughs like this one and the actual christening font too! They are in her garden being loved and cared for. If I remember I'll get a few shots.

I know earlierI said that the building had too many issues but I have now been told to do some homework and find out who owns it!! Wor lass has slept on the idea and has now spoken....

Access is the main factor though "an agreement" could be reached with other landowners. There is a hooge split in a gable end where the fire breast is but again it could be sorted (lots of money!).

I will have to go back to the area now to speak to the locals - saying that they are quite a strange lot up there!

Nice one mate. Got a feeling from looking at that landscape that it's an area we drive around quite a lot in the summer.

As promised. The troughs and font out of a customers garden.

I want them written in her will for me! She told me that the font took 3 men to move it.

Man that fireplace is great. Imagine a huge cauldron over a fire there, filled with oil and boiling small children I am confused, is this the place we saw the other day?

What a great looking place. As you said a lot of money to put it right but it looks like it would be worth it.

I could supply a couple of them....free of charge of course ;)

Sort of! You saw it from a distance! All the recent buildings we have done, day or night, can see each other. Man I hate this secrecy but it has to be done!

Boiling children? Actually mate I could see kids graffitti upstairs in the plasterwork! I'll dig out a pic.

Here you go:

I did think that the drawings were scary - skeleton people drawn by kids. You could be right though - they knew they were about to be boiled in oil next to the fireplace.
