I'm keeping this location secret this time because there are some nice things lying round the place.
I stumbled across this old steading during my search for an old property to restore and live in for my retirement.
The site has no access whatsoever and I had to jump many fences to get to it - yes I ripped my trousers in the process!
The location is full of history and a simple search online told me that it can be traced back to the year 800. There are also two well preserved "camps" nearby, complete with trenches.
I'll stop waffling now and put the pics up.....
The front of the building which faces South. A forest now hides the place - I think that's why it is still standing!
The rear of the building. Many features have sadly been robbed over the years but this shot shows just how substantial the walls are.
Look what lies on the grass outside. A beautiful old stone carved trough. I bet there are many other things like this around the site.
The front door. Very nice stonework here.
Inside the steading. Massive old fireplace with additions over the years. To the left is a nest box. There are owls here. Beautiful snowy owls - I was speechless when I saw them.
What's left of the stairs. I didn't dare climb them!
The beautiful winters view the occupants would have enjoyed.
Sadly this building is not the one. There are too many "issues" which need sorting. I will keep looking though - I'll share my finds with you.
