Default Dove pillboxes, Marston on dove, Derbyshire

Went for a wander with my girlfriend to take a look at these dove type pillboxes. The boxes not only protected the river as they flank an old railway embankment and bridge. Heres the pics

Just prior to the bridge note the pillboxes on either side of the river

    Remains of the bridge

    The soldiers view

    Metal supports???

    Another bridge

    An old railway fence post

What a great mix . Old railways and those Pillboxes. I have never seen anything like them.:)

    Good post, fez. :)
That first pillbox looks more like a section post though. Were there weapons slits along the rear wall?

Foxy those Pillboxes really are unusual. Do you think they were built by the rail company itself or a different body?

Here's what I mean by a section post-

Ian Sanders doesn't seem to have any sites in Derbyshire, so he would probably appreciate you letting him know about those.

I don't think the first one is a section post as it is built on a concrete hard standing (pic 2 is the same pillbox). As far as I know they are a rare type known as a dove type pillbox. Cheers FB
