Good pictures Black Shuck. Are you still figuring out how to set the exposure for your camera ?

Nice pics, Black.
Does that pillbox have a central room? There are two type 27s at Lunan Bay, Montrose, where the roof is whole and the central well is actually a full-sized room. The thinking is that they were designed as sector HQs.

No it didnt Historian. It was sort of divided into different sections inside with a section behind each Embrasure. It had a sort of hexagonal central pillar in the middle.

I love the windmill :) I am assuming that the actual sails were in operation during WW2, camouflage of sorts?

No it hasnt fuctioned as a Windmill for an awful long time before that Hypo. I have seen pics from the top but there was no way on this earth you would have seen me going up that ladder!:)

Do what Hypo? Do you mean to tell me there was a ROC Post next to the Windmill! Fooks Sake I missed the bugger! Is the Hatch open?:)

Yep, there's a post right beside the mill - they used to use the mill as a lookout. It was locked, but not sure whether that's still the case.

Right I had better get up there this evening then because I have just googled it and found some pics.:) Thanks Hypo.

Shuck

That's a Type 24 Pillbox and the central pillar is an anti-ricochet wall. Have you visited the fortified windmill just north of Ludham Bridge? That's a nice example of improvised fortification, there's also a spigot mortar emplacement right next to it. The Dog pub is worth a visit too.

Cheers

Steve

They were totally in the middle of nowhere Bads. I only just found out that there was an ROC Post behind the Windmill. More annoying was the fact that the Hatch is def open!.

Thanks Jonney. I have got to go back at some point as I am told there is an ROC Post behind the windmill.:)
