I'd been intrigued by this description of several pillboxes on the Norfolk coast between Wells and Holkham :

Composite pillbox consisting of two Vickers machine gun emplacements set together at an angle to give fields of fire, from the main embrasures, at 90 degrees to each other.

Managed to get up there this week, however it happend to be the wettest day for awhile so the pics aren't great.

View from rear showing west facing MG embrasure and rear rifle fmbrasure.

Hope you enjoyed yourself up their Phillip. Thats a lovely Pillbox and a beautiful part of the North Norfolk Coast!

nice find Philip what was it like inside

Dark and full of rubbish!

As you go in the door ther is a dividing wall straight ahead, the two MG openings left and right and the rifle opening over your left shoulder and actualy not much room.

This one? Headed out that way back in July-never seen so many mobile homes-perhaps it was their breeding season !!

Think its a mounting for an AA gun according to my book on Norfolk WW2 defences

Spot on philip, you were right in your july post to say its an Oerlikon AA gun mounting post. Wikipedia shows a pic of one where you can see the 'cone' quite clearly. although it may not be the exact same gun as there were several variants.

Excellent pics Phil. These guys are unique to Norfolk but quite similar to the Eared Pillboxes in Northumberland. The main difference is the single door at the apex of the two halves on the Norfolk ones and the double door on the Northumberland ones. First time I've seen a pic of one of these so great work.
