The rest of the airfield at Longside has been well covered in Bax's earlier thread. But the one thing that has always been on my mind is the location of the Battle HQ. Some council site records record it as being possibly demolished.

But as you can see, this is not the case. I need to go back and speak nicely to Mr Farmer at some point. You'll see why in a bit. ;)

My first glimpse of the little beauty.

As you can see, the main entrance has been backfilled. Likely to stop the sheep that the farm is famous for from falling to their doom.

She's looking a bit sorry for herself.

But. LOOKY HERE!!! The hatch is still in place!!!! Now you see why I want to speak to the owner. I NEED to get down there for a proper nosy. But obviously, if I went in this morning and a sheep fell on my head, I'd be in all sorts of trouble. Anybody want to come with me for a look?

I think that covers the whole of the airfield now. Maybe. ;)

Seahorse,

I'm up for that but unfortunately I'm in South Africa at the moment! Yeh it was easy to spot from the memorial car park and is show on some of the other records. There were you lambs in the Field when I returned with Bryag so we didn't even try to get in....

Well, give me a shout when you get back and we'll try to arrange something. I'll try to sweet talk the farmer in the meantime. I did knock this morning but there couldn't have been anyone in. The dog barking its lungs out would have woken the dead

I know what you mean about the lambs though. I've put this off until the field was empty, and thought today was the day. But it wasn't until I was within piccie taking distance, that it became obvious the sheep were hiding on the other side of the hill. Oh, well. Too late to go back by then. ;)

Nice pics Seahorse. I'm a bit of a sucker for these things. My nearest is Dunsfold I should get myself over there sometime.

It's a date then. LOL

Aye, I must admit I feel abnormally attracted to all things WW2, Captain Pies. It's like Christmas though. You get all excited at the thought of a new find, but it's all a bit of an anticlimax once you've been and done it. Like reading your Broons and Oor Wullie books all in one go before yer parents are even up and out of bed. :D

Now there's you thinking I'm a soft southern pansy and haven't the foggiest about what you're on about.:)

I'll have you know my Gandma was from Edinburgh and I got an Oor Wullie annual every year until my 14th Birthday :p so I know exactly what you mean.

HAHA. I STILL get one every year. Well, alternating each year between either one, but you know what I mean. :D
