Bit of a surprise this one. I was driving back to Lerwick from Sumburgh Head (report to follow once I've worked out what I explored) and enjoying the scenery when I spotted it. In accordance with cptpies' polite request it's S0015359 on the DoB database. According to the database there are two, I don't know whether I missed the second one or it's gone.

Nice to see one still in its original location great stuff Richard

There SHOULD be 2, but I was told a while back that one has been moved.

I took that to mean, stolen. I could be wrong tho. I was, after all, talking to the guy in Captain Flint's. And as we all know, alcohol tends to encourage a spot of exaggeration, if not downright telling of porkies. Personally, I don't think it exists. ;)

Did you not manage to pop on over to confirm the Battle HQ? I must take a wander up there at some point. I want to see what, if anything, there is left of the Chain Home stuff. I seem to remember there's bits and pieces up near Sullom Voe as well. And Gee rings a bell too.

Must fire up GE for a nosey. Then book a ferry. :)

Great find Richard, I suspect that there are two but it's unlikely the other would be near this one. I imagine the recorder didn't bother to put a second grid ref in the report so it might be worth a bit of a hunt around the airfield perimeter if you ever get the chance. Those that have been removed have generally ended up in museums near their original locations, I can't see that being the case here?

I was there for work and I hadn't really planned or researched anything- I didn't expect to have so much time left over before the ferry home.

The other thing I found seemed to be a small tank farm but I haven't managed to find anything about it yet. Do you know anything about it?

No, I hadn't heard anything about the tanks. They seem awfully close to the airfield though. Must make it a promise to myself to get on up this year sometime.
