North Berkshire.
This weekend saw some more parts fitted in the Jigsaw which is the Red line. One pillbox I knew of but it was just a matter of haveing the to go and ask if I could visit and get some photo's, it filled in part of the Stopline from Abingdon to Appleton. That now leaves two to track down, one exists and I know where it is the other I'm unsure if it is still there.
The next two are maked up on the DOB but not where you would expect them to be. The are along what I call the upper Thames or as it should be known the River Isis. From the Thames path nithere are visable and even in Googlel earth you would struggle to see them I eventally tracked them down useing Elgin maps they now fill the map up to Duxford and I know what is to be the next explore in a few weeks. ANy way on with the photo's.
First is Old Shifford Farm.

Looks in great condition thoughis fenced off. I did not jump the fence and the hedge is quite thick.

Entrance taken through the fence.

Inside taken through one of the Loopholes.
From here I took a treck across the field after telling the farm over where I was going. I followed the river as I had an idea as to where the pillbox was which was on an other land owners land.

It is in the middle of that lot, I had to climb a couple of fences and a ditch to get here.

And iff you pear through sloe bush you see this.

I got to the pillbos by going round the bush and finding a ditch and was rewarded by this view.

Took this on the timer with the small camera I tote about.
Not sure if any one would want to visit this pillbox as it is rather remote and I'm not sure who owns it so I hope they forgive my going here.

Last one which is in Frilford and in a private garden so permision will be needed. Seems I was not the only one to ask about looking at it as a young lady doing a masters degree and been round to view as well not so long ago, any way my thanks to the owner for letting be get a few photo's.
That is it for now till I go on another treck to find some more which could be either further up the red line or along the Blue. :)

Cannot get enough pillbox porn NC cracking shots as usual. What was the square block to the right of the last pillbox mate

Nice finds, as always, NC. :)
I saw one of those concrete tanks like yours in a field once, and wondered what it was for. My mind went through all the military uses, but water tank makes more sense now that you've mentioned it.

Thanks NC. You've mentioned Elgin maps a couple of times now. What is it? software? or good old fashioned paper. Sounds like something I would find useful.

Some one put up a link on here, I just saved it. Been usefull but not all seem to be shown. I think there is a couple of Pillboxes along this section are in the wrond place or not on the DOB at all least not on my GPX file. Can that be updated.

Nice clear and crisp photos NC and wonderfully clean inside. I like the ones like this that are out in the sticks a bit, stops the grotty little chavs from getting at them. Wouldn't want to ruin their posey clothes and trainers now would they

Like you, I find timers are damn handy for PB internals. Coupled with a slightly longer exposure it makes for some really pleasing flash-free pics.

Thanks NC, for the Elgin link,
I have just checked out the stopline im working on and I have found it useful as it shows some of the pillboxes to, dead handy if trees are covering on google, some of the ones I have found seem to be in the wrong place aswell, so im recording the grid reference.

The street level mapping on the elgin site uses the OSGB opensource Streetview (as does the 'where's the path site etc). The data can be downloaded, free, for local use (I use it with Memory Map along with the standard OSGB 1K25, 1K50 and 1" historical maps)....or they'll send you free discs with it

GREAT Work Mr C !!! When you get the bit between your teeth you dont let go !! Nice piccies too -- i take it that the new camera was worth the expense ?:)

Elgin Maps

Hi NC

Isn't there one in a garden in Marcham that is not often visited? Did you ever get to the one in the House parkland there?

Tried to use the link to Elgin Maps above but it tells me there is a problem that the developer needs to debug. Are you having that problem or is it just the link?

Trying to post my photos here but it won't let me so it will have to be Flickr for me in the meantime.

Cheers

Not got back to the college yet anld only have a long shot of that one. Can't see any thing on my data base in Marcham though there is one marked on Barrow farm it all so shows one at Abingdon Common not far from the A34 Roundabout but I thing that may have been demolished. There is a thread her on how to link photo's but what I do is right click on the large photo, the right click copy image location but it will need
either side for the photo to come up. There is a widget if you use firefox. Think it is time for a meet up the Sulham Valley seems so long ago.:)
