Well its been a while since I was last out and about and I was starting to get concrete withdrawl symptoms so I thought it was time I got my arse into gear and did something about it. I decided to find some of the pillboxes I missed last time I was up in Northumberland. I will apologuise now for the poor picture quality as I have lost the battery charger for my camera and as the new one still hasn't arrived I have had to use my phone to take the shots.

First stop was Embleton to find 2 pillboxes in the village.I drove past the first one three times before I spotted it. Mother nature is reclaiming this one rapidly (type 24)

View from the road, this is why I nearly missed it

Someone doesn't anyone getting inside this one

The only remaining embrasure

I couldn't get a decent shot through the embrasure but it seemed to be quite clean inside

The second pillbox is a non standard type but much easier to see

someone has tried to make the entrance bigger at some point

I then moved on to the pillboxes on the beach that I missed when my camera battery died last time

the first one being a single embrasured vickers machine gum emplacement

Nice one mate nothing wrong with those pics :) Good feeling to get the gaps filled in as well

Moving swiftly on the DoB said there were some tank blocks on the beach but I couldn't find any trace of these but what I did find was these

Sandbags

About 200yards further up the beach was this little beauty

The entrance would have been somewhere round here

Then it was off further North to Newton to bag the 2 type 24's in the village

The first one, all embrasures sealed

The second type 24 was hiding behind the bushes to the right of the bins

I knocked on the land owners door to ask for permission to photograph it but an old lady answered and told me I would have to call another time as it was her sons house and she couldn't give me permission he would have to, so that's another one still left to do next time. The DoB says that there is a loophole wall in the village as well but there are no signs of any embrasures in the wall it states should have them.

Well thats all folks hope you enjoyed this little bit of concrete goodiness from me
Thanks for looking

Jon

Nothing wrong with them, some quality concrete there, Think I'd have got in the first though. :)

Cheers NC I wanted to get in there but that would have ment damaging the fence mate and there were a few people in the gardens less than 50 foot away already giving me strange looks so I thought I best not. The photos turned out better than I thought they were goin to considering they were off my phone

Cheers guys it was bugging me that I missed them but they are off the todo list now mind you there are still a shed load left to get on the coast which will be getting done shortly

Some great remains there, Jon. You've answered a long-time question for me too, about the beach defences. There are some like that on my local beach and I always wondered if they really were defence remains (which I'd put them down as) and not something else that came from cliff falls back along. Anyway, seeing the curly wire, and the end bits on another piece of concrete, answers that for me...they're identical!
Cheers as always. :)

Cheers Foxy glad to be of assistance, I'll be posting some pics up later of a strange little pillbox that I'm going to need help to identify it's purpose because I seem to think half of it is missing although this part is intact
