Okay here goes with another one of my marathon Pillbox sessions. This time i was alone and these photos are taken on two seperate days due to life. This adventure sees me starting at South Mimms, actualy just to the west of the A1 but only by a touch. First off i came to Anti Tank Obstacle S0005658 which has now been removed, the database says it was there in 1989 which amases me but i was not suprised its gone by now.

Next we come to Anti Tank Ditch S0009554, theres a river running alongside this but i wonder if this was a ditch thats over time become filled in:

Moving along we come to Pillbox Type 24 S0005039 which was impossible to acsess.

Then we come to Anti Tank Block S0005041, there is a pair of them at the side of the road:

The souther most of the three Spigot Mortar Bases to the North i missed, the second one im going to go back for and the most northern is gone.

Then on towards Anti Tank block S0005042 we pass an Anti Tank Block with no number which i could find no trace of. Next we come to S0005042 which is a pretty impressive collection on blocks, i counted 27 blocks but no Ditch:

Next we come to Type 24 S0005044 which sits right next to the road and you cant miss it:

The Anti Tank blocks are just along the road and on the opposite side, S0013085. My photo only shows 3 but there is six total, two rows of three:

I had a bit of a poke around for the Ammunition store and couldnt find it, i also spoke to the landowner who doesnt think it remains.

Moving along we skip past a Type 22 and a Type 24 which i shall return to as they are on private property and no one was able to show me to them.

We then come to Anti Tank Block S0005047:

Part 2 coming soon.

5044 is actually a type 26 not a 24. I've corrected the EDoB entry for that one. Looking forward to the rest.

Ammo store is still there in the woods just east of the pillbox you pictured, has what look like the remains of trenchs running around it.

you missed a few bits, sloped AT blocks are part of a roadblock, sockets in the ground in between them are for verticul rails.

Thank you, i am aware ive missed some, they are on my list to return to.

5044 is pretty creepy. Almost like a devil worshipper used to live there. Nice photos and i still cannot find that store in the woods despite hacking it up and down at least three times. Thanks for the photos. Further down are blocks in the school yard and for obvious reasons i was asked to come back when the school was closed (for the obvious reason).

I left the ones in the school for the same reason, theres some places ill try and blag my way into for photos but there is a limit.

I dont find 5044 creepy personaly, i was more worried about my car getting hit as people come down that road at speed and the layby isnt the biggest.

Now we come to Roadblock S0005049, the database photo is wrong (it shows the roadblock above not this one), all i can see is this but i did not want to look around to much more as i was standing on the side of a busy road:
rsz_5274.jpg

Im going to go back for the other two roadblocks and Pillbox nearby.

Then we come to Anti Tank blocks S0005053, i counted 47 blocks visable but the database says theres more:

Moving along past S0005054 which there was no acess to we come to Type 22 S0005055 which is hidden in the corner of a yard. The owners where more than happy to give me permission to photograph it and they where even talking about restoring it:

Shes flooded inside but otherwise in pretty good nick:

Im going to go back for the line of Pillboxes and a MG Emplacement so watch out for these.

Next we come to Type 27 S0005060 which is right next to the road, you cant miss it. The front of the pillbox was totaly overgrown so getting clear photos was impossible. Anti Tank Block S0011713 is right next to it:

Not sure if this is just scrap metal or what:

The rear Embasure:

Photobuckets playing up again so the rest of the images will have to wait.

Great pics, loving the blocks, thanks for sharing

Lets try and get the last ones up now. Next we come to S0005061 a Varient pillbox which is impossible to miss, its right at the edge of the field. Interior acsess was a no go though.

Next we move to Pillbox Type 22 S0005062 and Anti Tank Block S0016689, i didnt want to climb across a field that had been manured that morning but i will go back.
rsz_5301.jpg

Then there are some in a park which i shall go back and visit soon.

Then we come to Pillbox Type 27 S0005067. The Anti Tank Block S0016718 is gone:

Moving along we come to Type 22 S0005069:

And not far away we come to Anti Tank Block S0012133, there are now only 9 left:

And last but not least for the day Type 27 S0000583 which is very well overgrown and internal acsess was impossible:
rsz_5310.jpg

And an interesting roof, any idea why its like this?

Think the type 27 has had the aa pit filled in as its being used for bats

If you go through Brookfield via Cuffley you can get to the pillbox sat over the north side of the golf course. Along the same trail you will get to the other which is sat in the corner of the field. This then takes you up to the rear of the farm where the 28 is that you photographed. Also on the farm is an old Anderson shelter. Nice trek. Get up above the housing estate in Cuffley. These are a bitch to get too though. Have fun and love the report.
