Right i'd better get the rest of this report out of the way. Continuing slightly further up the road along the B3011 i cut back in on myself along a very muddy public right of way down to the junction of Stoken lane. One either rode of the road are two type 24 pillboxes. One the north side of the road and set back on the wooded area and overlooking the field is S0011184. The entrance is in the field which was fun at the time with the herd of cows taking an interest. The other pillbox S0011185 is set right back in the trees and against the fence and fairly difficult to find. At the time i couldn't locate the pillbox and almost got myself into trouble with a person who took offence in me walking into a field and looking along the hedge line. For some reason he got quite aggressive with me and seemed to grudgingly accept that i was up to no good. He didn't even know what a pillbox was!! so i had to explain what it was i was looking for. Wisely i left that pillbox for the next day and took it in just before i went home. I still missed two pillboxes located along this area of road and as i say - this would have been a heavy fortified area. 5 pillboxes down this road and two located in the field opposite.

Anyhow less of my woffle and onto the pictures.

PILLBOX (TYPE FW3/24): S0011184
Set right back into the wooded area in a dank and wet environment with mosquitos buzzing around, i started to cut back some of the holly, ivy and nettles to expose the pillbox. Particularly so on the area surrounding the entrance. It exposed the damage to the brick shuttering. When cutting back i always cut down to the base of the stem to prevent further damage occurring.

The cows started to take an interest at this point.

For ease of report and location i shall post up the images for S0011185 which as you can see is again set in a dank area. Not fantastic external shots but .....

The North facing entrance overlooking the road. The field of fire would have been over the field located behind the fence. This pillbox would then have been covered by its sister pillbox over the road and by a further two up the lane. (i missed these two out accidentally- nuts!)

At the end of the lane and in the adjacent field are two 24's. One set high up on the hill and the first of the pillboxes (western facing) sat low in the field.

The cammo fixing posts are all missing but still evident on the roof of both pillboxes in this field.

Clearing the entrance off i literally slid into the pillbox. Thankfully onto a mound of earth as the pillbox was flooded.

PILLBOX (TYPE FW3/24): S0006792

Sat on the crest of the hill and the second out of a line of four pillboxes linking Hazel Farm to Creek Farm. I need to get to the one in Hazel farm but need to see if a request to view needs to be put in for this one. GE indicates it's sat in the rear of a garden. It has a date inscription inside for the added incentive.

PILLBOX (TYPE FW3/24): S0011179

Sat at the very bottom of the hill, across the road and in line with the hedge. The field was full of cows again and it took ages waiting for them to clear off before i could get any shots of the pillbox. As it very close to a property i will need to ask for permission for a closer inspection.

I usually do the personal touch mate. I try to get these out of the way early on an explore so i am not covered in mud and stink of cow muck. I can usually talk the hind legs off a donkey and have not had a refusal yet. If not in person, they cannot assess if you are genuine and not up to no good. Take into consideration age of the owners, if they live alone etc, there are a number of possible fear factors there for any person meeting a stranger.

That is very true, im the same i can talk for England but i enjoy being able to educate people and share with them what i know. Ive often found land owners do not know much beyond its a pillbox if that sometimes and often they want to know more. I often think id log more if i didnt spend so much time talking but then again i proberably wouldnt get to so many either.
