Made a start on the Wash defences at the north end.First the four type 26's on the spit of land at the River Witham mouth

Inland slightly built on a bank are two Lics 3 bays both facing the river now in machete country.

Excellent shots. There were several of these littering the east coast near Bridlington where I spent a lot of my childhood holidays. A lot of them have been washed in to the sea by coastal erosion now, but many still litter the farmers fields. I am presuming that they were all manned 24 hours a day and acted as machine gun nests in case of coastal invasion?
If anyone has any info on their roll in the war I would be very interested : )

No, they were very rarely manned, if at all. Although local home guard units would have run drills etc.
 
Nice aS EVER Rich that 3 bay has a hell of a tide mark in it must flood badly when it rains
