Thumbs up Wollaton WWII Pillbox, Nottingham, July 2016

Evening all. Since I spotted this place when on the way home from work a few months ago, I decided it was time to get out exploring again. There's not much to see here, but it's a more interesting way to spend my evening taking photos than sat in front of the TV.

    History:
This casemate is of type FW3/22. During World War II, these bunkers were used for the defense of the United Kingdom against a possible enemy invasion. They were built in 1940 and into 1941.

I'm guessing this concrete pillar is to support the roof?

    Nice view of the countryside:

Couldn't resist a quick panorama from the roof:

    Cheers guys :)

About us
DerelictPlaces is a forum for people with an interest in the history and documentation of disused, derelict and abandoned buildings to come together and share their experiences, photography and historical findings. Our military, industrial and historical heritage is fast disappearing under the pressure of regeneration, the need for new housing, and often through simple neglect; Our aim is to document these places before they disappear entirely.
