    Default Four North Norfolk pillboxes

Need my pillbox fix from time-to-time and North Norfolk didn't disappoint!

No.1 - This one is on the Beach at Brancaster next to Golf Club House.

This unique irregular hexagonal pillbox is all locked up but in pretty good nick.

There's also a spigot mortar pedestal next to it:

No.2 - This tidy type FW3/22 can be found at a road junction just south of Little Walsingham.

No.3 - This well-tended FW3/22 is just north of Swanton Novers. The commemorative plaque on the pillbox's front wall was a very poignant touch.

No.4 - And the best for last. This pristine Vickers MG Pillbox is just to the right of the road leading to the beach at Holkham.

Special because it still has both ring mounts for the Vickers Machine guns:

OK, enough concrete porn for now!

Nice set there Mr D !! Done a week in Norfolk a couple of weeks back in near perfect weather and got lots of pillbox pics ( unfortunately the wrong time of year for vegetation though !!) There is so many still standing including many WW1 examples and a fair few unique ones too. Holkham is an excellent location too, what with all those vickers MG posts and a cracking walk to the sea !!

So if Jerry wanted to invade then Norfolk would be the ideal landing point. But there seems to be better quality pill boxes around this area. Seems to be nice and clean and built well.

About us
DerelictPlaces is a forum for people with an interest in the history and documentation of disused, derelict and abandoned buildings to come together and share their experiences, photography and historical findings. Our military, industrial and historical heritage is fast disappearing under the pressure of regeneration, the need for new housing, and often through simple neglect; Our aim is to document these places before they disappear entirely.
