The plymouth blitz occured in 1941, when hitlers attack on Britain was at full force,

over several days and nights local fighter sqadrons and nearby Heavy Anti Aircraft batteries (down thomas, maker HAA, penlee and bere alston to name a few) and smaller bofors guns aimed to knock out the enemy.....

meanwhile the masses made for places like this....i believe theres around 100 of these in plymouth, most public parks had several...

ive looked at many sites.....this one finially paid off

visited with scotty & sarah .....

another good explore!:)

Nice one. We have only looked at one so far. Theres actually one where I work as well, but not got round to investigating that!

Excellent find, like the notices written in pen about no smoking and putting the rubbish in the box at the end lol. And the names of people written in pen in there. Old names too, maybe when it was used as an air raid shelter?

Cheers,

:) Sal

Nice one! Theres one in Plymouth Uni a big one. I visited it when i was in primary school (many moons ago) Looked just the same as yours.

nice one guys! looks like another good find..... many hours lifting manholes or hours in the library researching? around 100 in plymouth! wow! Im sure you'll be busy working your way through them... how many have you cracked now kernow?

theres two up by the uni.....portland square is the one everybody thinks of - that took a direct hit during the way and (i believe) that was the single biggest loss of life in plymouth during the blitz. aparently theres another one in corbourg st thats open to the public....

Ah i see. Shame so many people did die when they got hit but at the smae time they must have saved far more lives. Open to the public you say? It's just not as much fun is it
