Location
East Devon's Jurassic Park!
After a dental appointment I had time to kill until the bus back home. So I took a wander down to the beach...and found these...

And they had faces! Presumably they would originally have faced each other with metal poles connecting them to form a barrier.

Cheers :)

Have not seen tank blocks like that before, don't think you get that type round here. Nice find though...

Hi Foxy, judging by other posts on the site it looks like these were used as a road block at some point but how they ended up on the beach is another question.

Yes, I wondered about that. I reckon it's because there's a river outlet in the centre of the beach there and the blocks were near to the concrete walkway, which is the only entrance to the village, afaik...for a tank, anyway!
Thanks for your comments, jonney. :)

nice one Foxy, just a thought and probably completely wrong but maybe they were put there to tie boats to ?

Thing is, there aren't any boats on that beach. I don't know for sure but I reckon it's probably unsuitable for landing and there may be by-laws against it. Although there may have been at some point backalong.
It's a good point, though. :)

Nice shots Foxy........ strange things to see at the beach indeed  And those little faces LOL

Btw, out of curiosity, are you scanning your images from prints or negs?

Cheers Pip. :)
I'm scanning from prints as I don't have a neg scanner yet, which means there's a loss of definition, unfortunately.
Those faces...lol...they really made me smile when I saw them.

actually it is not strange to see anti tanks blocks on a beach at all. In Norfolk there are several locations where the normal square tank blocks are formed in a defence line of about 20 altogether. The threat of invasion came from Germany across the North Sea or so the then government thought.

Oh wow...... I never knew about these (shame on me!)

Any photos?

True. I think what the point jonney was making is that these ones looked as if they've been used as a road block, rather than the lines of blocks that were usually used on beaches...and that's what I wondered about too, as I would have expected to see more than just two. Hope that makes sense!
Cheers, norwich. :)

Yer Foxy I was talking about the blocks being used as a road block as the North East coast is littered with Tank Blocks

I suppose it's possible that there WAS a line of them at some point and the rest were taken away, but why these ones were left is a mystery!

Heres another bunch of them down Warbarrow Bay near Tyneham's forgotten village!

You will find them dotted all over Dorset by the water!

Sorry about the blury picture!
