helloo . my name is wendy mortimer . i have a relative buried at netherne cemetery . after many years arguing with gleesons they finally decided to clear the cemetery . and my brother and i have a plan of the cemetery ,and we laid flowers near to my great aunt grave ,by measuring where the trees were . seems there was thousands buried there ,some 4 to one grave .gleesons were meant to clear the cemetry of brambles and plant wild flowers . my health didnt allow me to visit for a year ,but then when i was able covid happened .. so here i am stuck at home .when able i will visit the cemetery again , when we was there we had to cross a farmers field to get to the cemetery gates ....i do think the war office could have put a memorial there for the soldiers that are buried there . this is an ongoing argument with them also.but i am not one to give up. my relative was mabel frances mortimer she died at netherne age 19 in 1916 of epilepsy (termed as an idiot) that was when i saw the records at woking record centre.

It's very sad they don't have the memorial they deserve, hope you you get one for them.
Hopefully you'll be able to visit again soon.

The Commonwealth War Graves Commission will put a memorial to the War Dead buried there IF THEY ARE ASKED TO. It would be a good idea to contact them. cwgc.org Also with an abandoned Cemetery, it falls within the jurisdiction of the local Council. Contact the Council directly, or better find out which local Council Ward it is in and email the relevant Councillor(s). It is possible for it to be maintained as a Local Nature Reserve.

I found where the hospital was and see there was a chapel there though what it is used for now is not easy to see on streetview. I cannot see any cemetery marked on the map around the place so I would presume it is privately owned and not looked after by the local council who would have at least provided some access Found this while searching Netherne Cemetery. Netherne Asylum Cemetery - July 2014
I think you would need to find out who the war graves contained or at least have them listed and the commission might put a stone up with the names on.
Good luck with your quest
