Bobbed into this one on my way to work. Place is huge for a care home. Said to have originally been built in the 1800’s for the Milne family (big retailers in Manchester) then purchased by the Together trust and made into a children’s care home. Some Past and Recent History described below.

Please enjoy.

Past History

In 1920, the Manchester and Salford Boys' and Girls' Refuges established its Children's Garden Village on a 22-acre estate.

The estate's original residence, became a home for girls.

By 1930, the estate provided accommodate for up to 120 children, aged from 2 to 12 years.

In 1958, the Refuges' Bethesda Home moved out from Manchester to make use of the growing amount of vacant space at the Estates site.

The Main House was disposed of in 1983 owing to the financial difficulties of the charity, now known as the Together Trust.

The Trust retained the remainder of the site which now houses its headquarters offices and The former Trust School — a non-maintained day special school for children and young people aged 4 to 19 years with autism spectrum conditions and related social communication difficulties.

RECENT HISTORY

A care home branded ‘inadequate’ for the third inspection running after it got even worse now appears to have shut down.

The Care home was initially put into special measures in January of this year (2017) by the Care Quality Commission (CQC).

The latest inspection, in mid-October, found it was still failing.

Among the criticisms in the report was management of medicines with poor storage and little evidence that staff competency at administering them had been checked.

Other problems were not all windows were fitted with restraints to prevent residents falling out of them, a broken fire exit and inaccurate care records.

The report said: “During this inspection we checked if the required improvements had been made.

We found the provider was still in breach of the regulations identified in our last two inspections of the service and we also found a further two breaches of the Health and Social Care Act.

“The overall rating for this service remains ‘inadequate’ and the service remains in special measures.

“We are currently considering our options in relation to enforcement in response to the breaches of regulations identified.”

During their visit to the home, which can take up to 40 people for residential care, inspectors also found the kitchen to be ‘visibly dirty’.

The system linking the dining room fire exit to the fire alarm was broken and records of fire safety checks were incomplete.

Elsewhere a urine sample dated as being from September was found in the fridge and management did not always have full employment histories for staff members.

Inspectors graded the home in five sub-categories with safety and how well-led by management it was said to be inadequate.

But the CQC report did state that residents said they were treated with respect and that staff were ‘gentle, friendly and caring’.

It also said staff were positive about working at the home and improvements that had been made since the last inspection.

Another inspection had taken place in March of this year.

But overall the inevitable failings lead to closure.
