I realise that anybody can go here but I took some pictures of some places inside such as the gas chamber which I only realised afterwards you are not meant to take pics inside.

Here's my flickr link which also has a few random pics of Krakow and the Wieliczka salt mines.

It was a very poignant visit for me as my father is Polish and most of his family died there. What bowled me over was the size of the place. Just shocking, but the most peaceful place I've ever been to.

Hope they're of some interest.

Thankyou very much for sharing that with us, Miss A. I can see why you'd be moved. What an amazing set of photos. I've seen a couple of the images from the salt mines before, but wonderful to see so much more.
I've wanted to visit Auschwitz Birkenau myself for some time; just didn't realise how huge it is; nor the beautiful setting it's in with the lakes & trees.
Thankyou once again for such lovely yet sobering images.
Cheers
Foxy :)

Hey thanks guys and gals for all your comments, it means alot. I'd recommend a visit. i did feel a bit odd taking pics but it was really for my father's benefit as he'll never get the chance to go there for himself.

Hi Miss A,

Many thanks for sharing your visit & photographs with us.
I can't even begin to imagine the horrors & evil acts which were carried out by the Nazis at these concentration camps.
I think that it's so importants that places such as these camps are preserved, not so much as to dwell in the past, but more to ensure that present / future generations are not allowed to forget what occured, so such evils / inhumane acts are never allowed to happen again.
It's really eery, and must have been even more so for you, having actually visited the place.
Thanks again,

Lb:cool:

Great photos, which really give an insight into the place. I'd never seen pictures of the mines before, amazing. Important that these places are well kept, but also that we've got photos to share with people that can't get to see it in person.
