Berlin 1993

The Berlin Wall was breached in November 1989 after 77 years, and it marked the end of the DDR and beginning of German unification. My wife and I visited it in February

1993, when substantial sections of the Wall still existed and not a lot of rebuilding had taken place, such that the likes of Potsdamer Platz were still waste ground. Today Potsdamer Platz is like Piccadilly Circus. I took a lot of photographs and I am glad I did as this was very soon to change. Amazingly I got photographs of abandoned warplanes and tanks, covered in graffiti not to mentioned war damaged buildings. Hope you enjoy the pics.

A lot of interesting photos of Berlin. Image0011 that looks like Checkpoint Charlie. Gesundbrunnen is a completely different station now. Potsdamer Platz has been completely rebuilt. I visited Berlin in the year 2001 and what a lot of changes there was then and still a few bombed buildings were being demolished. I also found Hitlers' bunker. I found a lot of buildings with marks on the wall from the shelling as in Image 0053. This guy Robert Conrad has 99 pictures of Berlin just after the wall (almost) came down. Been there a couple of times, first was before the wall came down and I drove there along the corridor which was as scary as shit. Not the thing you want to face going through the check points seeing machine gun towers and and soldiers walking around with AK47's. I need to sort of my blog and post a link.Nice shots. Remember seeing pink Combines on the towers that held Tanks as you got to Belin
