New batch of spammers since about last Thursday. Russians. And IP not used for spamming before so the filter did not catch them all. But now we have more blocks here and on the server.
A possible way to automatically reduce spam postings is require new registrations to pass a simple test before they can post publicly / privately. The test tries to weed out someone just trolling forums to create registrations. Maybe answer a random question(s) related to to what makes the site unique. You never know, a spammer answering it might take a genuine interest in the site and offer postings about a derelict call centre or cibercafe in nigeria.

Scammers try evade detection by posting through PMs so they can have their message exposed for longer in private - where it gets a higher response rate. By re-posting it publicly immediately negates its 'private' effect.
The other advantage is the published 'pm' message content gets picked up by searchbots so if anyone else is suspicious from another forum all they need do is google the text of the PM. And these url backlinks probably improve SEO too. Make use of the b###rds!
