Brandon Scrap Yard - June 20

Im a bit of a car guy as some of you will know so this was a rather nice find by my partner in crime.
While people were visiting Medlers this place lays a stones throw away & is prob one of the best UK vehicle graveyards Iv visited. (well until a recent find anyway ;-) )

I cant find a thing about this place but I assume it was open to the public at some point, maybe someone local can enlighten me?
I do know that there was in excess of 200 cars here, but my only regret is that we only covered a small area of the yard.

So why didnt we do more? there was someone living in a caravan in the centre of the site & the generators were running.
No big deal? this was the guy that owns the site.

In retrospect he was prob already under lock & key by this point, but as my lad was with us we were not taking any chances.
We did find trip wires between some of the cars which was slightly unnerving.
What we did get to see was an impressive array of rare (mostly Jap) & highly desirable metal!

Was a few American cars there to keep @mookster happy

Wow, some fantastic metal in there. Even in their dire condition some would probably be worth a restoration.

I've known about this place since the late 80s, and now as someone fairly local I've seen bits of the story. It was never as far as I'm aware an actual scrapyard, but a private collection. It was behind closed gate and a high fence made of old bonnets and pallets etc, the owner lived on site. I don't know what happened to the owner after the shooting, but the whole yard was cleared a couple of years ago, with many cars appearing on ebay, some selling for decent money, so whoever cleared it knew what they were doing. The land was up for sale a year or so ago.

I believe he was released from prison but died shortly after or maybe did die on prison.
I actually just drove by the other day & can't believe how good a job they have done of clearing the woods, they must of made a fortune from that lot.
The house that was hardly viable before looks smart now too.

The weirdest thing is that many many years ago, I'm talking like 35 years ago I was living temporarily down in Devon, and I got friendly with a local hot rodder whilst I was down there. He was a bit older than me, and we became good friends for a few years. He swore blind that as a kid he lived in this area and knew of a yard, tucked away in the forrest, where amongst loads of old cars and stuff there were bits of aircraft including bits of B17 Flying Fortress. Now this would be the right area, and the whole description he gave me even then made me think of the Brandon place, of course we're talking so long ago that most of the jap stuff that was there at the end would've been nearly new so unlikely to be there then. I know the yard existed way back then as I was a teenager and has passed it many many times, it does make me wonder what kind of stuff was in there that long ago. There was of course loads of military surplus stuff around here, particularly US stuff so it is plausible. Whether it was truth, myth or somewhere in between, it's long since gone now.

yeah agreed its entirely possible, as mentioned we only scratched the surface of the place too which I regret but think we are the only ones to explore any of it.

Hi Glynn. What an amazing place! I can't believe the condition of the Supras, my favourite car, I've owned one for 25 years. In a month or so, we plan a long hike to a derelict car yard near a railway siding near Worksop. I'll send you the pics. Best, Mark

excellent, u are lucky though like most cars 25yr ago they were the sort of things we were trading for a£100. soo many of mine I wish Id kept.
Unfortunately this yard is now cleared, I believe some were trailered away so they may see the light of day again or at least become some useable spares
