The site has quite a huge chunk of history behind it, starting off in 1948 when the Checkendon site was obtained by the MOD then later on turned into a hostel for Polish families who were arriving from the Middle East and South Africa.
Eventually Checkendon became a bustling polish camp with its own church and priest, school, entertainments and a hall, therefore it showed this camp was very similar to the rest throughout the UK.
Checkendon POW Camp eventually closed in the 60s and much of it became abandoned, then reclaimed by nature while others were sold off to Timber Yard Companys in Checkendon.
But originally before it was a Polish Hostel, during WW2 the camp formed a part of RAF Woodcote (Maintenance Area) (A site I have also visited).
During WW2 the camp was also used for housing Italian Prisoner's of war.
After WW2 the site was then handed over to the American Soldiers who used the camp before being turned into a ex Polish service men.
As with all these camps they were very basic built with corrugated nissen huts and strategically placed ablution blocks (Basically a thrown up building).

Seeing as this place is near enough in my area and not to far I decided to head back and do some light painting but haven't had the time to process the photos yet.
