The History…
Egerton House is a 200 year old Victorian building with period features & has an adjacent barn building used for functions, including business events. Egerton House dates back to 1860 - originally owned by a local Mill entrepreneur. In 1982, the property was expanded adding additional bedrooms to the hotel & prior to this an award winning restaurant was built in 1979. In 1996, a barn style function suite was built & in October 2010 the Macdonald hotel group took over ownership of the hotel from Jan Hampton — who had acquired the hotel in 2003.

Egerton House Ltd closed it doors & ceased trading early in 2014, several attempts to convert the site into a care home have been proposed but to date this Victorian building still stands.

The Explore…
After seeing this place explored a few times, curiosity to its current state got the better of me. The building is in a sorry state - access is open but to say its very sketchy is an understatement. Inside the whole place is very damp ridden & the fire damage is obvious… structurally some areas are very unsafe - the hotel itself looks like it would of been very beautiful before the decay took over. Its sad to see the hotel as it is now & the basement/lower level has a leaking water pipe so the foundations are no doubt getting weaker & weaker from the knee deep water that is down there.
