Hi All
Day 9
This was the second fort of the day and part of the German Metz/Verdun fortification group, this fort and fort Sommy form part of the group defense.
The fort was built by the Germans back in 1899 and was going to house 500 men and have again 150mm and 100mm howitzers for long range defense.
This fort as with Sommy changed hands a few times, German until the end of WW1 where it ended up in French control then again in 1940 the Germans
captured the fort, then in 1944 tough fighting the US and French retook the fort........

Dropping down a level or two.
Looking up in to a howitzer turret.
Just to give a sense of size this is the gun turret from the top of the fort - yes the gun is still in place.
Right time to head back in to the dark and cool under belly of this place.
Down in the guts of this place is the power generator room and the bread ovens.
The above two room were cool but not as cool as the next two, In this room are 1000`s and 1000`s of round metal gas mask filters, this room would of been
a magazine at one time.
A short walk in the dark and going in to another former magazine you are greeted with ration tins, again 1000`s of them, this is only a close up shot.
