Not much to say about this place as its been covered plenty before other than its pleasantly surprising!
Only spent a quick half hour or so in here with my lad while we were down that way on a short break this year. On entering the yard you are greeted with the relatively uninteresting kilns.

From here we went into this equally uninteresting shed.

About now I was wondering if this place was actually worth the visit but coming through this shed, bam you are presented with the small but delightful remaining bit of machinery!
I thoroughly enjoyed the rest of it.

Thanks for looking.

Even if a place is totally wrecked, if I come across a good big chunk of engineering in the middle of it all like that it feels totally worth it. But then again, I'm still bothered by new car engines. Can't get your hands in anymore. Some computer chip attached to what you're fixing might get upset.

I have just replaced the catalytic convertor on my VW Fox - after a 'professional' mechanic failed to obtain one. Fifteen bolts on the cat (and exhaust manifold) plus removing the fan to provide the space needed to do the change over, and the job was done. Real spanner work, and a bit of grunt - I loved it. Looking at the gear wheels and pulleys in the photos had me thinking of when I explored old places, and the smell of the past was everywhere.

Aye. I tend to torture myself after a garage does work by looking up how much the parts were. I couldn't do most of the work now though. But you're right about smells. It's been weird that any abandoned school we've done has smelt like every non-abandoned school. Never worked out what causes a school to smell like a school. Even when emptied of pupils and books.

One school I was at for a short while was in what had been a Victorian country house with acres of land. At some time a fire had burnt out part of the front of the building, but the charred internal remains were still there, not with much smell. However, there was also the family chapel with the crypt containing the coffins of the long-dead family ancestors. Now that did smell!!
