Inspired by @Stealthstar79 and her report on Harlaxton decontamination hospital, popped over to look at how work was progressing. It quickly became apparent that the site was very much live and workers were on site working on the two buildings. Previous report I did on the place along with the little bit of history I could find about the place is HERE

So on to Plan B. Due east on the old 1940’s O/S map I’d spotted what was the hospital’s sewage facility:

So off I traipsed, through woods and field. And after 20 or so minutes, there was indeed the camp’s sewage works. It wasn’t spectacular, but at least it was something to photograph and something that doesn’t appear to have been photographed before.

Through the trees we go:

And here it is:

Not too much to see:

But this hut is photogenic:

That's all folks!!!

Interesting, I like looking at old maps myself, and finding something and seeing what may be left behind, I have an interest in exploring derelict sewage works myself, but I can imagine they are none too safe, and not really something I would do alone, or if I did, would stick to clearly visible roads and tracks. Nice report!!

Hi, I live in grantham and enjoy exploring sites like these but have no luck finding any.. is there a map to find such places please ?
The two key tools in the tool box here are old O/S maps (see the National Library of Scotland's O/S map archive HERE) in conjunction with Google Maps.

The side by side viewer is fascinating, and a feature I did not know about until this year, can spend hours on there!

You can also try Were is the Path which is useful as well. I traced out the old sewage system at Fair Mile Hospital which ran to a reed bed. There was not much left when I looked around but the thing is when I was a kid we used to play around the place & I remember it all working back then in the 1960's. All that is left now are the reed beds and they are fenced off

Cheers, will give that one a look!

All that sewage must have done wonders for the growth of the reeds. Were they cut for thatching? Or basket weaving?

But raised a smile, a place I went this morning had a shed-load of reeds too,lol
