Jeld Wen Lowerstoft has been covered many times but this place has only had a couple of reports covering a small amount & I cant really figure why as its actually a little gem!
It is somewhat tricky, our visit involved getting hit on the head by a brick & hiding in a bush 20ft from the blindest security guard Iv ever seen plus this is on their still used site but as always I think we were just lucky to hit this at the right time but I bloodey loved this one!

JELD-WEN was founded by Richard ”Dick” Wendt, an entrepreneur at heart, who learned the art of managing a manufacturing company under the tutelage of his father, Caradco executive Lester Wendt. In 1957, Iowa-based Caradco sent Dick to Oregon to help run the company’s millwork plant in Klamath Falls. Caradco decided to sell the plant at auction. Dick and four business partners, Larry Wetter, John Biehn, Gerry Wickersham, and Bill Taylor bought many of the assets on October 25, 1960 and named the new company JELD-WEN.

JELD-WEN entered the European market in 1993. Since then JELD-WEN has grown to encompass brands across the continent. In the UK, the JELD-WEN brand has been in existence since 1999 when it replaced Rugby Joinery, formerly the John Carr and Boulton and Paul businesses.

Today JELD-WEN employs approximately 21,000 people worldwide and has manufacturing, distribution and showroom locations across the United States and in 24 countries, located primarily in North America, Europe and Australia.

Im not sure why this part if empty, Im guessing it just became economically unviable so was easier to just close the doors, Its surprising though the amount of stuff they left behind!

How did you get hit on the head with a brick ? 😳 Just asking because it almost happened to me and a friend whilst trying to lift her after breaking her ankle in the grounds of Hartford Mill by a group of kids from the 3rd window.

I climbed down from a flat roof a bit hastily as security puled into the yard & one of the edge bricks came loose, I actually fell about 4ft in the trees & the brick promptly followed me!
Whats more amazing is that secca didnt hear or see anything lol

That's what I call a lathe!
Well there was a tool stock off a lath showing with an old tip tool in it and a couple showing a milling machine they look to be in such a state that I would be surprised to see if they could be restored to working order. The obviously have never bothered to clean the swarf off either

Great pics! I went there about 15 years ago as secca and managed to take some pics. The brief was not to enter the buildings as the asbestos levels were very high. Didn't stop me masking up and snapping some pipework tho.
