Major Fire at Margaret Beavan School

The former Margaret Beavan Special School in West Derby, Liverpool which has been reported on a number of times on this group suffered a major fire July 1st/2nd.

I know I taught there at the start of my teaching career spring term 1987.

Plans were finally unveiled last summer to redevelop the site and repurpose the main building - whether that will now be possible remains to be seen or is damage bad enough to now warrant demolition and present the developers with a blank canvass?

I live very close to another well known listed Liverpool building which has also laid abandoned since 2007.

Plans were published for that to be repurposed several years ago. It still has not yet happened and I fear the outcome will be the same.
