I've dated the place shutting down to 2005 based off the paperwork left behind. I was informed about this place by a very kind homeless man in an abandoned chapel that I was exploring with a friend. Currently the property is owned by The Union Pacific Railroad but there is a fenced off area still owned by Alcoa behind the treeline of the main area. Most photos were taken with my old Nikon D40 through either my adapted Rokkor-PF 55mm f/1.7 or my Nikkor AF 35-70mm f/3.3-4.5. I'll be making another trip back out there soon to do some videography with my Nikon D800 and Nikkor AF 50mm f/1.8D.

I hope you all enjoy the photos that I have so far!

I like your first shot, with the lattice of steelwork roof trusses and ties, and the composition of the second shot is good, too.

I've heard that UP are pretty hardline about trespassers on the railway - like trainhoppers and hoboes - do the railroad bulls also patrol derelict buildings like this?

I've been out there 3 times and surprisingly haven't seen or heard a soul while out there. It's a really peaceful area tucked away behind some farm land. I have seen the railway passing through, though it is also quite badly maintained. There are some office buildings that are almost entirely untouched aside from the main production area that we will get some photos in. I'm excited to go back, but I don't plan on taking my chances more than one or two more times. Haha

Good luck when you go back, would love to see some more photos. I've explored a couple of aluminium plants here in the UK, although they were connected with British Aluminium and Alcan rather than Alcoa.

I'm guessing the buildings sit on an old spur line that doesn't see much rail traffic, so it sounds like UP won't be too excited about the occasional harmless trespasser. :)

love the pipe work with greenery on. is this all you have from here though?
Thank you very much! As for from that trip in particular, I have these other photos that I took on my phone. They're not the best quality, but you can see more of the plant.
