Hi everyone
I previously explored old homes and hospitals with an experienced friend. But never alone. Female with 13 year old son. Not up to date with safety etc like more experienced are so looking for a fairly safe yet exciting place close to Suffolk please for this weekend.
Its his first explore and want to make it as good as possible and a bit risky as he will get bored but also safe thankyou so much

I regularly take my teenage daughters on outings, but yes I'd recommend it being somewhere you've done before so you're aware of the dangerous parts beforehand. If it's dark/tunnel then shine your light at the ground to make sure you can see where you're treading and if you want to look around to stop and then shine your torch around. Common sense stuff and just keep your eye on them. Recommend doing it though. Bit of risk and a sense of adventure is a good them for them.

Hi all. I actually can't remember where i went before or how to get in. I have mental health stuff going on. Autism etc so not good with directions but once I'm there.. I'm fine. And am very safe etc. I'm in suffolk myself so thought somewhere round here as a good starter but I have no idea where that's also exciting. Sorry to ask

Try and search for posts relating to your area and see if any can still be accessed. It's all part of the fun to visit somewhere and not know if you can get in till you get there, or end up somewhere random you where 'just' passing on the way to somewhere else.

Must be some explorers in Suffolk or around Suffolk can help this nice lady out 🤷🏻‍♂️ maybe even let her tag along somewhere.
I'd love to help but I'm 'up norf' so would probably frighten you anyway because we are all savages..... Gggggrrrr

For a newbie with kids in tow I would recommend Helmswell Airfield near Lincoln. The place is quite safe and open to the public as it is a huge Antiques centre with some 400 dealers but ignore them and scratch around the place looking for USAF / RAF heritage most of the buildings are open so minimal danger of having security on your back. Ok it is not the most exiting place for daredevils but you can easily spend all day wandering around pretending to be Douglas Bader and then there is the bonus of coffee shop and cafe when you need a bit of a rest. Around East Anglia there are lots of old airfields like this mainly converted to industrial estates where you can wander round looking for the history and ignoring the modern units.

Westleton roc post is nice if open and in great condition. I'm sure there's loads of stuff out there. Just Google your area and add Urbex see what pops up. Great you wanna get out with your kid don't give up 🙌

There are two golden rules just like enjoying the countryside 1. don't leave any evidence that you were there i.e. graffiti and 2. only leave with memories and photo's i.e. don't nick anything. This means that other explorers can enjoy the same experience you had plus if you do get caught by security they wont have any reason to give you a hard time just escort you off the premises.
