Raf West Raynham - March 2003

It was less than 9 years since it had closed (1994) when we visited so was in not bad condition. In the later years flyging stoped and I believe they used it for Radar. But the security did not like photos being taken. It was the centre of a storm around this time as it had loads of housing that was dissued in the area where norfolk needed homes. There were streets full of 3 bed houses with garages boarded up. I actually wrote to the MOD about this place to use it in a film but was denied due to health & saferty reasons.

As I said in your Upwood post,please put more pics up if you are making a report..I and many others could simply put a couple of pics up with a link to my webhost of sites I have done,but folk here like to see and read a proper prepared report with written history too if poss.Thanks.

Back in the day

I was here for a while back in 1978, when the place was home to 85 Sqdn with the Bloodhound Mk2 anti aircraft missile. The pads are on the eastern side of the airfield, and were in blocks of 4. They were awesome bits of kit, good for upto 60,000ft, and supersonic before they had cleared the launch rail!
