In 1764 John Harrison from Leicester left the navy and set up a shop in the city. This was the beginnings of the local seed firm Harrison & Son, which traded for over 200 years. Their Royal Midland Seed Warehouse in the city was in more recent years home to Jem Sox, hosiery manufacturers. The building was supposed to have been torn down a while ago, to be replaced by a horrific looking hotel. However it seems it has changed hands and is now being kept, it is currently being stripped out.
