Sundon chalk quarry is a 65-acre biological site of special scientific interest. The quarry was established to provide chalk and marl for the Sundon cement works which operated between 1899 and 1976. The only sign of the plant’s existence are the foundations left behind.

The Explore:

I had spotted this on google maps and it looked rather interesting. Seeing as the other half of the funky muffin crew fell over a rather small pooch and broke her wrist meant she was out of this explore, so I met up with another fellow explorer. Little did I know that the rusty objects I saw on the map would be burnt out shells of cars dumped there over the years, over 40 in fact. Maybe not the best place to visit after all the rain we’d been having, as the chalk set like cement under our boots. All the slips, trips and falls I’m surprised we didn’t break our necks. We never made it to the top of the quarry where the holes/bunkers are but it turned out to be a nice day after all and I managed to get a few shots.

Enjoy the rust!
