*edit - can a kind mod please put the correct year in the title:lol::lol:

Visited with True British Metal and Landie Man (all credit goes to him for finding this location). This was only intended to be a recce after our visit to the Aylesbury Odeon earlier in the day, but we spotted an access point and decided to go for it. At first glance it looks bare as workers have been busy stripping a lot of the stuff out but there are still some nice features left inside if you look hard enough although out the back is a large skip full of the contents of the home and surrounding the skip is more stuff that would have once been in situ:(

It's been pretty much un-chavved, there are a few broken windows and some graffiti on the outside but that is basically it

The history I can find all comes from the homes owners, The Fremantle Trust:

Built in the 1970s, The Elms is a two-storey home providing residential care for 56 older people. The home is divided into 5 seperate living groups, which include specialist dementia care facilities. Each group has its own lounge and dining area and all service users have their own bedroom.

It closed in summer 2009, and this was possibly due to subsidence or other structural defects- there are large wooden joists supporting one of the staircases and large joists laid out across an upstairs corridor as well. It will be demolished to make way for a new care home. Apologies for the crapness of some of the pics my camera and I were not in tune today:rolleyes:

The Mookster machine rolls on!This looks like one of those vile designed places from the 80`s that actually deserves to be knocked down.Your pics are fine by the way,but the potatoes are indeed vile.

I agree. ^^

It is a grim place to be in. Elderly residents don't deserve this.

Parts of this building remind me of One Flew Over the Cukoos Nest...

Cheers guys...Odeon pics will be up soon but some of them are shockingly awful

can a kind moderator please edit the title? I made a boob with the year. Again.

Great report but I really hope I don't end up in a place like this in my twilight years.
