Whilst passing through the area it seemed the right time to see the cooling towers- almost everyone else has so I thought I might as well. It's a given explore, but even so there is no place I have visited yet that has the same feel as this place. The scale of the towers is immense and they provide a feeling of insignificance as you stand in the middle and look up, every sound you make amplified and returned to you a second later.
I spoke to a couple of locals who said the reason the towers still stand is they are built on a limestone bed and, proven when a tower was demolished years ago, there is a risk of structural damage to buildings nearby.

It's a relaxing site to visit, becasue, since they can be seen from miles away and they're too tall to loose sight of, they are easy to find;

Once the initial feelings of awe are over, the next thoughts are about what a shame it is that nothing can be easily climbed;

nice shots dude, I know what you mean, there is an odd feeling when you're walking around this place. I loved standing in the towers making echos!

It is a nice place, but very difficult to get any decent pictures inside.

Yeah definitely, I guess its so dark, but there's all the light at the bottom. Did you go down any of the inlet tunnel things? pretty cool stood in the middle of one of them looking all the way up. Also looks like someone's taken away the makeshift ladder for getting up the tower thing!

I think the rectangular towers are the ash slurry tanks. There was a piece of hosepipe hanging down, but I thought any attempt to climb it and I'd be relying on the police helicoipter annoyingly circulating overhead for rescue....

Inlet tunnels? Think I walked on top of one, but not inside one...

yeah there was a crate propped up agains the wall there before, we got up on top using the hosepipe thing, was actually pretty stable.

There's one that has a hole it the outside of it so you can walk to the end of it, pretty good.

Wasn't a bird that flew that sort of flew 'without being detected' was it?
