So there I was, sat in the garden round at my sisters place, barbeque food debris scattered round the lawn, wall to wall relatives, trying to nurse a queasy, food filled stomach into some kind of comfortable position. You get the picture.

Now I love my family, but a pillbox hunt beats the hell out of small talk and I knew about this one and roughly where it was. Just off a road, hop the fence, 25 yards into a field nestling against the hedge. Easy I thought.

Me old mum pipes up “where’s he off to now?”
To which my son replies” wot dad?? Oh he’ll be off feedin’ the insects again”

With that, I escaped for a few hours.

Anyway, yer ‘tis

Described on cptpies GE overlay as “May be S0001764 Taunton Stop Line”

Fought my way through 4 feet tall grass, cow parsley, brambles and stingers (so much for hop a fence etc, Urbex planning fail, impatience at my age pah!)

There she is

After getting back to my car and emptying all the debris from my clothes, I went to take a look at this anti-tank wall. It used to guard the embankment of the old railway line near Chard Central station and is now partially hidden by a hedge. Approx 20 feet x 5 feet each section of which there are two.

For those with GE, grid co ords are 50 deg 52’ 38.15” N, 2 deg 57’ 21.70” W or right opposite Ernest Ashman Place off Victoria Ave, Chard (if you can’t be arsed).

Cunning disguise

Thought I should add just the one pic of the old station building which was being used last time I saw it but now appears deserted. Signs of chavving but still in good nick. Decided not to go round back etc as local plod drove past twice while I was photographing the front from the road.

Note to cptpies- do I get a credit for the wall or did krela beat me to it?
