North Devon ,and Saunton Beach/Braunton Burrows in particular,We're especially chosen for the preparations for the Normandy landings due to their similarly to the Normandy coast (the sand was deemed to be exactly the same which was essential to see how the armoured vehicles would perform). All along the coastline practice bunkers were built just inland for the troops to practice on,only a few are still visible.
